We have a new friend in our blocks center. Bee-bot is a programmable robot. Our preschoolers are learning beginning programming skills by attempting to make mazes for Bee-bot to follow. When our preschoolers are using Bee-bot they are solving problems, working together as a team, using their creativity, and telling interesting stories. For today's maze, the dinosaurs and monkeys came to see Bee-bot complete his maze.

This morning, we used plastic eggs to make some art. The preschoolers used the eggs to stamp with paint. During small group this week, our preschoolers practiced making predictions about the weight of different amounts of beans. They also explored how moving the buckets from one end of the scale to the other end might change the outcome.
This week, we made our first observations of beans. After we made our observations, we drew pictures of the beans in our plant journals. The beans were each placed on a paper towel and given a few sprays of water and hung in a window. We will be making observations of these beans for several weeks. Hopefully, we will be able to grow some bean plants!
We had two special visitors during yesterday's recess. Father Dan and Mambo (his dog) stopped by while we were playing outside.
This week, we began our new unit of study: Things That Grow! Today, we used magnifying glasses to examine the exterior of some sunflower seeds. Yesterday, we used mirrors to make observations of our reflections and then draw our self-portraits. You can see the completed self-portraits on display in the hallway. Today, we did an experiment using a flashlight. We learned that some items will block light entirely, some will block some of the light, and some will let almost all of the light pass. Each preschooler found an item in the classroom to test. Later on, while in the science center, preschoolers were able to continue this experiment on their own. This is a very easy experiment to do at home. Simply find some items that you want to test, make a prediction about what you think will happen, and then try it out.
When our preschoolers are in the science center, they are able to use flashlights. With a partner, they are making shadows and then tracing the shadows. The shadows are then added to our Shadow Museum so that everyone can see the shadows that they made.
