This week, one of our small group activities was to plant grass. Students made observations of the grass seeds before planting them. Hopefully, when we return after Easter break, our grass will have grown a lot!

This week, during small group, we made our final observations of our beans and then we planted them in soil. Hopefully, when we return to school after Easter break, we will have some bean plants to start observing! Today, for NAEYC's Week of the Young Child, we celebrated Work Together Wednesday! Both preschool classes worked together to make a large mural. Once it has completely dried, this will be on display in the hallway.
Today, both preschool classes combined to do a large art project. We first watched a short video of the alfombras de asserin (sawdust carpets) that are done during Holy Week. They are beautiful! Then, in groups of four, our preschoolers worked together to make their own carpets. We used paper and crayon, though, not sawdust. The finished projects are on display in the hallway! This week, we are celebrating NAEYC's Week of the Young Child. Today was Tasty Tuesday! During our lunch, we did a taste test of peeps.
Today, we received some new costumes for our dramatic play center. Our preschoolers are already have a lot of fun coming up with new ways to play using these new costumes!
This morning, we made bird feeders by stringing cereal onto pieces of yarn. The birds will be able to eat the cereal and they might even use the yarn in their nests! We will be hanging the bird feeders up next week. Not only were we doing an activity that will help neighborhood birds, it was also a good fine motor activity. One of our activities during small group was using rulers to measure items in the classroom. Our preschoolers had a lot of fun using these tools. This morning, we went on another walk around the block to find signs of spring. The preschoolers were so excited when we started to hear a woodpecker in a nearby tree. They were even more excited when we actually were able to find where the woodpecker was! We watched the woodpecker for nearly five minutes. In the picture below, the woodpecker is sitting on a branch. I've drawn a box around the bird so that it's easier to find.
This morning, we went for a walk around the school to find signs of spring. We heard many birds, saw a nest, and saw many plants and flowers that were beginning to grow.
