This morning, our preschoolers went on a shadow hunt. With a partner, they tried to find shadows throughout the classroom. We found so many shadows!

Yesterday, we celebrated Mardi Gras in our classroom. We began by doing a taste test of two different flavors of paczki. Later in the morning, both preschool classes and the kindergarten classes joined in the hallway to have a second line parade! We had so much fun! Last Friday, we celebrated Read Across America Day in preschool. We joined with Ms. Kaitlyn's preschool class to do several Dr. Seuss themed activities. We made hats so that we looked like Thing 1 and Thing 2. We made towers in a pattern to resemble the Cat in the Hat's hat. We drew pictures of what we wanted to be when we grew up like in the book Oh the Places You'll Go. And we did coloring pages from One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, The Cat in the Hat, and Green Eggs and Ham. It was a very busy and very fun day! In small group last week, the preschoolers explored shadows. They built towers with blocks and then explored how they could change the shadow by moving the flashlight. They were seeing firsthand how a shadow's size and shape can change based on where the light source is. This week, we learned that glitter sparkles because light is reflecting off of it. One of our small group activities was to paint a picture using glitter paint. These finished paintings are on display in the classroom. Tomorrow is Read Across America Day! We started to prepare for it today. We read two different Dr. Seuss books and made Cat in the Hat hats following a red/white color pattern. We will be joining Ms. Kaitlyn's class tomorrow for some more Dr. Seuss themed activities.
I added sand to the sensory table today and our preschooler's are already so excited about it! We are using funnels, shovels, and rakes to explore the sand.
This week, we read It Looked Like Spilt Milk and added the story to our felt board center. Today, our preschoolers painted their own cloud paintings. We had many different cloud shapes: ice cream cones, hearts, people, pizza, and many more. These will be on display in the hallway.
Last week, we began our new unit of study: Shadows and Reflections. During small group this week, our students had the opportunity to do some free exploration using mirrors and flashlights. |
