After adding stickers to the first initial of their name earlier in the week, at the end of the week the preschoolers were adding small pieces of paper to all of the letters in their name. This activity is also good practice while the students are learning how to use glue.
One of the main goals that we have for the first few weeks of school, is for the preschoolers to be able to recognize their own names. Before they enter into the classroom, they have to find their name on the owls and change it from white to multi-colored to show that they are in attendance for the day. Then, they have to find their name in the closet so that they know where to hang their bag and jacket.

One of our activities that we did last week to practice our name recognition and spelling skills was to add stickers to our first initials. This not only allows the students to decorate their initial how they would like to but it also allows the students to practice their fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination.
There are few things that preschoolers seem to enjoy more than blowing bubbles. The weather this week was perfect for some bubble blowing in the courtyard!
This week, we opened our library center for the students to use. While in the library center, students are able to read books, share books with each other, and choose a comfy place to relax. It was a very popular spot as soon as it opened.
Over the next several weeks, we will do many activities that will help our preschoolers as they learn to recognize their names and the letters in their names. Knowing what your name looks like is a vital skill for preschoolers to master. One activity that is always popular is name fishing! The students had to find their "name fish" and try to catch it with the fishing pole. It was a lot of fun!
What do we do if rain rolls in during our recess time? It's time for some dancing and movement using our Promethean board!
We had a great day! It went by so quickly! This is going to be a great year. The preschoolers are going to learn so much this year! I can't wait! Here are some pics from today.
