The students also explored what happens to the colors from markers when they get wet. Students drew a picture on paper and then sprayed the picture with water. It was fun to see the colors blending together on the paper.
This week, we are continuing to learn about wind and water. During small group, the students are exploring absorption. They are seeing what happens when they add drops of water to tissues, sponges, and paper towels.

Today we presented our annual Thanksgiving Program with Kindergarten and Ms. Kelly's preschoolers. It was so fun! I hope that everyone enjoyed watching! Have you seen our bulletin board in the hallway? Thank you to all families that sent in their finished turkey feathers. Our turkey looks amazing! He is so fun and colorful!
Our preschoolers have been working on their scissor skills. Proper and safe use of scissors is an important skill for preschoolers to master. However, it is not an easy skill to master. It requires practice in order to figure out how to hold the paper, where to place the fingers while holding the scissors, and it requires muscle strength in the hands in order to keep cutting in a line.
Scissor usage is easy and fun to practice at home. First, be sure that your child is using child-sized scissors. Then, simply draw a line on a piece of paper and ask your preschooler to try to cut on the line. At the beginning, they will only be snipping at the paper. That is the first step. After they have mastered snipping at the paper, studnets will then be able to try cutting the paper on a line. Once the preschooler has mastered cutting on a line, you can try to give them more complicated lines to cut on. Zig-zag lines or curved lines are more complicated to cut on and require more practice to master. Below, please find some ideas that you might want to try at home.
We have been learning about wind and water. This week, the students did their own painting using straws. Students dipped the straw into paint and then blew the paint out onto their paper. We used red and yellow so students could also explore what happens to the colors when they mix. It was messy but a lot of fun.
We had so much fun today on our field trip to the Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center. We went on a short walk through the woods, learned about the importance of leaves and tree bark for all of nature, met a turtle and explored the nature center on our own. After lunch at a neighboring picnic grove, we were able to run around outside which is always a fun thing to do! If you've been following this blog, you know that we've been working on a pinata for two weeks. Last week, during small group time, students each got the chance to add some new layers to the pinata. Earlier this week, students got the chance to decorate the pinata by adding squares of tissue paper. On Thursday, all of our hard work paid off when we finally broke it open! Both preschool classes had been working on their own pinatas. On Thursday, we go to see each class's pinata and take turns trying to break them open. Our pinata has completely dried so today it was time to decorate it. The preschoolers had a lot of fun decorating the pinata with pieces of tissue paper. We are going to let it dry again and will break it open later this week!
Ever year, the book Hooray, a Pinata! is one of the favorites that we read. This story is about a little girl who is planning birthday party and all is going well until she becomes too attached to her pinata and doesn't want to break it open at her party. This week, to accompany our rereadings of the book, we started making our own class pinata! It's been a lot of fun to put the pinata together. We will break it open next week. |
