This week, we opened one of our preschoolers' favorite centers: dramatic play! Throughout the year, our dramatic play center may become different places like a store, a beach, a doctor office, or any other place that their imagination comes up with. Right now, our dramatic play center is a set up as a kitchen but our preschoolers already found a way to turn the center into an airplane! I love seeing their imaginations take off as they explore the classroom with their friends!

One of the most important beginning of year skills that we work in is name recognition. We will be doing many different activities in the coming weeks that will help us to recognize our names, and recognize the names of fellow classmates. Yesterday, we went name fishing! This morning, we used glue for the first time this school year. We practiced making lines with the glue and making dots with the glue. We used those skills to make a donut craft!
On Thursday, we opened a new center: blocks! In blocks, preschoolers have access to many different types of blocks, other building materials, cars, trucks, plastic animals, and plastic people. Preschoolers learn problem solving skills, explore ways that they can work together, and develop dramatic play scenarios.
Last week, we had our first Spanish classes of the year. We have Spanish class three times a week. During this time, the preschoolers practice counting, colors, listen to stories, sing songs, dance, and play games in Spanish.
This week, we opened our art center. In the art center, preschoolers can use crayons, paper, colored pencils, markers, glue and scissors. They are also able to draw on a chalkboard and a dry erase board.
What do we do for recess if it's raining and we can't go outside? We do some dancing, moving, and exercising with GoNoodle on our classroom Promethean board. The preschoolers have so much fun learning new dances and also doing their own movements to different songs.
This week, we opened our library center! In the library center, preschoolers can read books, use letter magnets, and just relax and have some quiet time if they want.
On Mondays, we begin our day with music class with Mrs. A. Throughout the year, during music class, our preschoolers will learn songs for school concerts, songs for Mass, explore different ways of making music, and explore playing instruments. We had our very first music class of the year this morning!
Throughout the year, our students spend a lot of time exploring, learning, and playing in our centers. During this first week, our preschoolers learned about two centers: table toys and puzzles. Center time is an important time of our day when our preschoolers can be creative, solve problems, and practice working with peers. |
