Once again, Epiphany students are participating in Christmas Around the World activities. Preschool's country is Sweden. People in Sweden celebrate Santa Lucia day as a way to kick-off the Christmas celebrations. Young girls wear wreaths on their head with candles to symbolize the end of the long, dark days of winter and the beginning of longer, light-filled days. In Sweden, younger brothers wear a cone-shaped hat covered in stars to assist his big sister in her Santa Lucia duties. We made Santa Lucia wreath hats for the girls and Star Boy hats for the boys. Students did a coloring page featuring Santa Lucia and Star Boy. And, the students worked together to make a paper garland using the colors of Sweden's flag: blue and yellow.
