We will use the yarn again next week and then I will send the yarn pieces home so that the preschoolers can practice measuring at home as well.
Last Monday, I cut a piece of yarn that matched up to each student's height. We estimated how long the yarn would be if we laid each piece in a long line in the hallway. The yarn line went all the way down to 2nd grade! On Tuesday, we used the yarn to compare heights to things in the classroom. For example, students could see how many blocks tall they are. The preschoolers had a lot of fun and are excited to do it again.
