Today, we were able to use many fun materials from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for a day all about insects. First, as a part of our alphabet countdown, preschoolers worked in teams to find three insects that had been hidden around the classroom. Each team had a map leading to one of the three insects. X is for "X marks the spot!" After finding the three insects using their maps, the preschoolers rotated through three different stations. Ms. Kaitlyn read stories to them about insects, they browsed nonfiction books about insects and chose several insects from the books to draw, and they worked together to complete a floor puzzle depicting the life cycle of a butterfly. When we went outside for recess, the preschoolers searched for more insects that we could look at using the plastic container. The container had a magnifying glass on the lid so that we could make some observations.
