Students all were able to hold each of the furs and make some observations about how it looked and felt. We were able to see the furs of the following animals: muskrat, squirrel, skunk, opossum, beaver, coyote, deer, and raccoon. After each student had the chance to feel the furs, we took turns comparing our heights to the length of the coyote.
We usually get a chance to explore animal furs in January when we learn about camouflage but I wasn't able to get the resource trunk until this week. So, we were able to draw on our past knowledge about camouflage and colors of animal coverings while also drawing comparisons to some of the books that we are reading now, one of which has a raccoon for a main character.
